New version released

Recommended Posts

The new version of Total Network Inventory 1.6.6 (build 2040) has been released. Here is the list of updates:

Added: Alerts for disabled antiviruses, outdated service packs, low disk space etc.

Displayed in "General information" with red highlighting.

Added: Possibility to create more than one custom tabular report template.

Now it's possible to define several tabular reports and run any of them when necessary.

Added: Detailed tabular report for installed software.

"Reports - [Tabular reports] - Detailed reports - Installed software". This report shows all software for all selected computers, each software on one line, with additional column for computer name, specifying the computer where this software is installed. Other columns show software name, version, publisher, install date, and service pack, serial number and product key where available.

Added: Search of computers in reports with right-click on computer in the network tree.

When a printable or tabular report is built (except for tabular software reports), it is possible to scroll it to the necessary computer by clicking on this computer with the right mouse button. In the report where multiple lines correspond to one computer (detailed report for installed software) this will select all lines which belong to this PC and scroll the report to the first of them.

Added: Quick links for jumping to categories, search information in Google, set some options.

In "General information" there are small arrows in almost all lines of information. They allow to go to the appropriate category to view the details. There is also a quick link to edit alerts. In "Processes" category there are links to search Google for executable names.

Added: Optional output of nodes number in each group.

It shows the number of subnodes (including all subgroups) beside the name of a group. It can be switched on and off in the drop-down menu "A/IP", and in "Options - General".

Added: Selection of lines with double-click in the information output area.

When you double-click on a header line of the block of information or any other line, this block is selected for easier copying.

Improved: Browser-like search in the network tree with multi-highlighting.

Use Ctrl+Shift+F or press binoculars button on the small toolbar to show the nodes search panel. As you start typing, it will highlight all occurences of this text and it's possible to jump between them using buttons on the panel or Up and Down keyboard keys. When you're done, press "Enter" to select the currently highlighted node, or "Esc" to cancel the search and hide the panel.

Improved: Look and feel of categories panel.

New highlighting for categories.

Improved: Look and feel of the information output area.

New highlighting for information lines.

Improved: Correct sorting of numeric columns for standard tabular reports.

Line numbers and quantity columns are now sorted correctly.

Improved: Software and licenses tabular report now includes only selected computers.

This report is now located in "Reports - [Tabular reports] - Software reports - Software and licenses". It still works in pair with "Tools - Software accounting" where the license quantities can be set. However now it can show not only the software list and number installations for the whole network, as it was, but only for the selected computers and groups. This report now also automatically detects when it is needed to rebuild the software database (which was necessary to be done manually earlier). Additional effors has been put to remove software duplicates on each separate computer.

Improved: Retrieving of 64-bit installed software.

On 64-bit systems now all the software, both 32 and 64 bit, is retrieved.

Other minor fixes and improvements.

I like the new version! I have a question. What's the difference between Rescan and Rescan (fast)? Wouldn't I always want to the scan to be fast? :)

Thank you. Well, that's true, however the difference is that "Rescan" makes the full scan of selected computers (for all information categories), while "Rescan (fast)" scans only the current category (e.g. system or Installed software), and this usually is faster than full rescan.

Hi,

When I try to run the update it fails where it is replacing the tni.exe, saying that it doesn't have permissions?? I'm running this as the domain admin so can't be an account restriction issue?

i haven't had any problems with the previous updates.

You must close the program before installing the update (this usually applies to any software). Obviously it was already closed when you have installed previous updates.
