Scan failed for both SMB/RPC.

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I have another question. I have some computers in network which could not be scanned with error:

Scan failed: SMB: The user name or password is incorrect; RPC: Access Denied.

Computer run under Windows 10 (x64) Proffessional.

I'm pretty sure that credentials are fine, because I'm able to run a command:

net use \\comp\ipc$ with provided credentials

I've also read the help on this issue and can confirm that:

1. UAC is disabled.

2. User is administrator on this PC.

3. Password is not blank.

4. No domain involved.

5. In security policy: Network access: Sharing and security model for local accounts policy is Classic

6. Firewall is disabled.

7. WMI service is up and running.

8. DNS record is connect.

What I missed? Please advise.

Regards,

Denis.

Hi Denis,

If the remote computers are not part of a domain, we recommend running the .reg file with the following contents:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa]
"forceguest"=dword:00000000
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\system]
"LocalAccountTokenFilterPolicy"=dword:00000001

Please try running it on several computers and let us know if this helps.

In addition, you can check the following using the same credentials as you specified in TNI:

- is it possible to open \\computername\admin$ folder in File Explorer (to access the admin$ folder on the other computer)?
- is it possible to access "computername" from the services.msc (Action - Connect to another computer)?

Remote computers must be accessible in both cases.

I have the same issue like Denis, all the time I receiver error when I try to scan- "Scan failed: SMB: Username or password is incorrect; RPC: Access denied"

I used TNI from years but from some time I report that not all PC can be scaned remotly.

I'm scanning PCs inside domain, I checked registry and your tip not help :(

Also I can access to PC via C$, admin$ etc.

Please if you can help in resolving the problem

Hello, Damian.

Thanks for your message.

Please let us know if you are using the latest TNI version (4.7.0)?

Try running TNI as administrator (Run as Administrator in the context menu).

If the problem persists, create a new empty storage (Storage - Create...), then open Scanner and add one of the computers that you cannot scan. Add the same login that grants access to the admin$ folder and try performing the scan.

Let us know the result.
